SpeakLife is our (SEL) program. It provides an outlet for students to positively express themselves and communicate matters that impact their lives as teenagers.
Our SpeakLife Program is a commitment to empowering young people to begin to creatively express their journey towards resilience in living a full holistic life and is also a commitment to exposing the ways systemic racism and economic disparities impact their daily lives emotionally, physically, and spiritually.
GEMS hosts a special creative writing competition for ages 12-19 to write on a relevant topic from their eyes and experiences. As we are devoted to learning, understanding, and growing as a community we believe hearing the voices of our youth is imperative to the success of our future.
We invite students who are active in their community; have a passion for poetry, creative writing, or music to submit an original song, poem, or short essay.
Winners are eligible for scholarships. In addition, select entrants will be able to participate in our future Rhythm & Rhymes events and/or our upcoming published anthology project. Individuals, students, youth leadership councils, advocacy groups, and organizations are welcome to participate.
